Feeding the 5000 stops waste
February 1st 2010

A large amount of food is wasted in the UK every day, sometimes for purely aesthetic reasons.

Highlighting the problem of food waste, the 'Feeding 5,000' event was held in Trafalgar Square in December. It was organised by author and food waste campaigner,Tristram Stuart, highlighting the work of partner organisations: Save the Children,ActionAid,This is Rubbish and FareShare.

Via its strategic partnership with FareShare, the national food redistribution charity, Sodexo supported the day by contributing a team of 15 volunteers and cooking equipment. Lunch was served to over 5,000 people. All the food was made from fresh and nutritious ingredients that would otherwise have been wasted.
