Recycling gum reduces sticky waste October 1st 2011 The Gumdrop is a large
bubblegum-shaped ball which
Ashford-based company, EcoSan,
places in spots such as
school foyers and
shopping centres for
chewers to drop in their
gum for recycling.
It doesn't need to be
emptied, because the
entire ball is then
recycled, with ball and
gum all forming pellets which
can be re-used in plastic
production.
Sonja Wood, director of
EcoSan, who has been working
with the Surrey inventor of the
Gumdrop, comments:"The
government spends £150m a
year on cleaning gum from
streets so this could save
a huge amount of
money."
EcoSan works closely
with all its customers
and partners to help
reduce their carbon
footprint and meet
recommended
government directives for landfill
by recycling nappies, adult
incontinence and feminine
hygiene products. |
