Clarifying the Confusion over PDCB Legislation
August 1st 2005

There has recently been some confusion in the cleaning industry over the legislation regarding Paradichlorobenzene (PDCB), an odour-masking chemical traditionally used in urinal channel blocks. Scare-mongering and overexaggerated claims made by certain organisations has driven some customers into panic and uncertainty over its future. To clarify the confusion, technical experts from Jeyes Professional explain the facts: • From October 2005, PDCB is being reclassified under CHIP3 regulations.

• It will then be a legal requirement for any product containing this ingredient which is manufactured after this date to labelled with the statement ‘Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect.’ • Products manufactured before this date may still be sold without this labelling.

Jeyes Professional therefore wishes to announce that it has taken the decision to stop manufacturing products containing PDCB with effect from September 2005. As a responsible supplier the company does not wish to sell products with any type of ‘carcinogenic’ association.

At present Jeyes Professional manufactures and supplies two different ranges of urinal channel blocks – one containing PDCB and another which is PDCB-free. Jeyes technologists have now developed a new formulation non-PDCB product which outperforms all previous PDCB and Non-PDCB formulations the company has supplied. Professional tests have also demonstrated its superior performance versus competitor products on the market.

This new formulation will replace all existing Jeyes Professional PDCB and Non- PDCB products and will be relaunched under the Sanilav brand in September 2005, boasting a wide range of benefits: • PDCB-free – contains no Paradichlorobenzene • Detergent based formulation cleans as it fragrances • Helps control limescale • Three new, high impact fragrances with recognised odour neutralising properties • Lasts up to 4 weeks • Proven to last 3 times longer than competitor equivalents • Water soluble – will not block water outlets • Biodegradable • New barrel shape Three fragrance variants will be available in the new range – Citrus Zest, Ocean Fresh and Alpine Fresh - with blocks being sold in 3kg tubs, containing approximately 150 blocks per tub. The Citrus Zest variant will also be available in 36x60g cases..
