Designed for use on any high contact door where the risk of cross contamination is high(e.g.washrooms, hospitals, GP surgeries, care homes, educational establishments, hotels,
restaurants etc) the system comprises a canister of antibacterial compound inside a dispenser that is set at an angle around 30 cm above the door handle. At preset intervals (which can be chosen by the operator), the unit automatically dispenses a shot of disinfectant that covers the handle, and according to the company, kills 99.9 per cent of bacteria including E-coli, Enterococcus hirae, Listeria, MRSA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureas and C. difficile.Conforming to EU and VOC regulations, the product is therefore suitable for global use.
While the company commends the use of touchless taps, automatic flush toilets and soap dispensers, HYSO ceo and product inventor, Simon Sassoon, claims the benefits are lost as soon as the exit door is contaminated by someone failing to wash their hands.With many people failing to wash their hands after visiting a public washroom (the American Society of Microbiology surveyed 7,500 people across major US airports in 2003 and found 30 per cent did not wash their hands, while various studies in the UK suggest a similar level of apathy closer to home), he says the HYSO unit is a simple way to negate a lack of basic hygiene by this percentile of the population.
Easy to install with minimal ongoing maintenance, the unit runs off four AA batteries and delivers around 800 doses of the ethyl alcohol and quaternary ammonium compound. A proximity sensor detects motion within one meter of the unit ensuring the cessation of delivery, eliminating the inadvertent spraying of a hand. Also containing a light sensor, the HYSO unit will power down if no ambient light is present.
