October 2006 Problem October 1st 2006 Blood stains seem to be one of the most commonly asked about stains at the moment, this may seem a worrying trend but I think they are not all associated with the rise in gun crime but with the business opportunities associated with trauma scene clean up within the cleaning industry which is a field that is only going to suit a certain type of person but which has a unique new business profit potential.
Blood is unique from a stain removal point of view amongst organic stains in the fact that it is removed with an enzyme which has been activated hot ( see below) and used as a cold solution so as not to set in the stain. The brown stain that is left is often iron which needs to be tackled with rust remover. When dealing with any bodily fluids please take extra training into account, for protection from Hepatitus A, B & C or AIDS, there are special precautions you must take which we cannot deal with in this article.
It is often complained that enzymes do not work well, this is due mainly that the enzymes which are bought pre mixed are often lacking in strength as they quickly loose their strength once activated or they have been diluted in cold water instead of hot water (not boiling but hand hot, that’s about 50 degrees) to activate the enzymes they are most effective when used hot.Any diluted product remaining after use, should be poured down a drain, to clean the pipes, and not stored, as they loose their effectiveness, with time.
The first Enzymes, or biological catalysts, were introduced into the textile cleaning industry way back in 1970 when Chemspec launched ‘Formula 70’.That product is still in use today.
The use of enzyme based presprays most commonly deal with general organic soiling, 10 or 15 minutes of dwell time is needed prior to extraction for best results. Chemspec has an arsenal of enzymes including ‘Enzall’,‘PreKleen Enzyme Soil Lifter,‘PreKleen for Upholstery’ for all types of application. Another benefit of enzymes is their effectiveness as deodourisers. This is particularly relevant for milk, eggs, vomit, indeed almost any organic material. The powerful spotter, ‘Rx for Milk, Egg and Blood’ is ready to use, being pre-activated, and is used cold as a spotter for organic spillage and/or odour.
Enzyme traffic lane cleaners used for food based soils can be used for spots and blood stain removal as well so avoiding the need for the purchase of separate spotters. Please ring the number below to ask for help with any specific problems we have not covered.
