Green or just cashing in? December 1st 2007 Green Planet Solutions

questions just how
eco-friendly the rush of
so-called 'green
chemicals' really are
The cleaning industry has long been associated with having
a negative impact on the environment.Water wastage, the
overuse of cleaning products and the amount of energy
used by the sector are all issues that need to be addressed. But
perhaps the area that requires the most urgent consideration is
the unnecessary use of harmful chemicals that can have a
catastrophic impact on the environment.
In recent years there has been a rise in the amount of so
called 'green chemicals' on the market, however it is important
to note that there is a big difference between 'green chemicals'
and eco-friendly products that are not chemically modified.
'Green chemicals' are not necessarily biological; they could well
be made from natural ingredients but these natural
components may have been heavily adapted using chemicals
and therefore could still have a negative impact on the
environment. This makes it hard to differentiate between truly
eco-friendly products and those that just say they are.
There are, however, genuine eco-alternatives available that
actually outperform some of the leading chemical brands on the
market, minus the polluting side effects. Perhaps the most
important of these are new microbiological cleaning products
which supplement nature's proven ability to breakdown organic
waste
Not only are these microbiological alternatives more effective
than their chemical counterparts and better for the
environment; they also kinder to the operatives that use them as
they are non-irritant, non-toxic and many do not need to be
covered by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
(COSHH) legislation.
