Recycling washer for sensitive jobs
April 1st 2008

Tensid supplies more than just pressure washers – covering everything from antigraffiti

kit to training, it can even recommend approved contractors, one of which

recently used its water recycling washer to clean Ironbridge, a world heritage site

Celebrating 20 years in business,Tensid has accumulated a

stockpile of cleaning knowledge - both in terms of equipment

development and the network of contractors who specialise in

eliminating grime, gum and graffiti.

It's most recent advancement comes in the form of the Aquila

water recycling machine.According to the company it is the only hot

water pressure washer of its kind currently on the UK market. It allows

streets and pavements to be cleaned during the day as there is no

splashing or excessive water – and saves both cost and the

environment thanks to 95 per cent water recovery, so operatives can

work all day without having to

refill the water tank (the unit

has two 360 litre tanks, one

for fresh water and one for

the recycled, which is filtered

and re-used).The unit can

achieve up to 300 bar

maximum pressure at 18

litres per minute with 135°C

maximum water pressure.

Restoring Ironbridge

Tensid customer G-Force

Steam, a Telford and Mid-

Wales based company, was

called in recently to clean the

floor of the historic

Ironbridge.The bridge

needed to be cleaned prior to

being resurfaced with a non-slip resin, a project which was

commissioned by English Heritage.Owing to the proximity of the

river, the Environment Agency's view was that the use of conventional

pressure washers and steam cleaner could lead to contamination

from standing water or spray so an alternative method needed to be

found.Another issue was that the size and weight of any equipment

used on the bridge had to be controlled, meaning that many systems

would have been unsuitable.

"We have recently invested in specialised water recycling

equipment which vacuums up moisture and dirt as surfaces are

cleaned, then cleans it and recycles the water back. This means that

no residue is left on the surface and it cannot therefore spill into

surrounding areas," says Chris Garvey, MD of G-Force Steam."The

equipment we use was developed exclusively by Aquila and is the

latest technology for high pressure water cleaning industry. It

provides a more environmentally sound solution to a very common

problem of low water supplies.

"Projects such as this one, at a very important historic site, need to

be treated with care and at Ironbridge,we had the issue of the river

contamination to consider also. The system was presented to the

Environment Agency who approved the process. It was important

that pedestrians could still walk across the bridge whilst cleaning was

in progress so the project was undertaken in two parts with one half

left open as the other half was cleaned."

The sole UK distributor of Aquila equipment,Tensid also provides

short and long term pressure washer contract hire.
