Don't let smokes become slips October 1st 2007 Anti-smoking laws and new health and safety initiatives have boosted interest in
small to medium sweepers and other floorcare machines, says Nilfisk-ALTO, as pub
landlords and business owners deal with two growing issues: cigarette ends outdoors
and slips and trips in the workplace
Nilfisk-ALTO's UK product manager Rick Hollebon says that
since the smoking ban was introduced in July, sales of
sweepers have increased significantly. "Mid-range battery
powered walk-behind models are the most popular, but we have also
seen growing interest at the upper and lower ends of the market.
"Manual sweepers are also selling well, while some of our dealers
who have not previously sold ride-on machines are starting to see
worthwhile sales of these models too."
At the same time, the Health and Safety Executive's drive to prevent
slips and trips has focused attention on the need for best practice in
workplace cleanliness.
"The smoking ban has forced thousands of smokers out of doors,
creating a serious litter problem on public and private property,"
continues Rick Hollebon."The problem affects pavements and other
outdoor areas adjoining offices, shops, pubs, restaurants,
entertainment centres, and many other buildings. Business and
property owners are looking for simple and effective solutions so that
they can maintain a good clean image around their premises and
avoid any risk of penalties for public littering."
Machines such as the FLOORTEC 550 and 560 from Nilfisk-ALTO are
proving popular with small business users. With 500mm and 600mm
sweeping widths respectively, these compact, ergonomically
designed battery powered sweepers are easily manoeuvrable
enabling them to clean large areas, as well as corners and narrow
spaces. They are suitable for cleaning outdoor smokers' shelters. They
can sweep up to 2,800m2/h (3,280 m2/h) and have generous hoppers
of 40 litres (50 litres). Both models
feature dust control systems. More articles from Nilfisk-ALTO: |
