Multi-dilutions make life easier
August 1st 2007

Chemspec claims switching chemicals to suit different requirements is a hassle. But one which can be avoided with its range of multi-dilution products

Carpet and upholstery cleaners have a vast range of chemical products available to them to satisfy specific requirements of both the type of carpet or textile and the nature and degree of soiling.

Once the choice of chemical is made the next decision is how much chemical to add to water to achieve the correct mix for the job in hand.

For years chemical bottles have borne labels with very specific dilution rates determined after considerable testing and analysis in the laboratory. The chemists conducting such tests feel a duty to recommend the correct dilution for reasons of safety, economy and to satisfy saturation levels to avoid problems with excess residues.

Frequently these recommended dilution rates are totally ignored by users who, having sniffed the contents, will tip a slurp or two into a bucket or tank to prepare a cleaning solution. The result of such random dilution can be wasteful and often leaves unforeseen problems after the cleaning process.

Modern dosing units go some way to avoiding such problems but generally, users still need to change the stock solution to suit the job in hand. Cleaning a woollen carpet with an aggressive chemical can have disastrous results and, claims Chemspec, using a Woolsafe product to clean a badly soiled commercial carpet can leave a less than satisfactory result.

The answer to most of these problems lies with Multi-Dilution Chemicals as developed by Chemspec for its carpet and upholstery cleaning customers. This approach has been available for some years in Formula 90 and is now extended to Powdered High Heat, another extraction chemical and Express Lane traffic lane cleaner, both suited to truckmount operation but also very effective with portable machine systems.

Truckmount users have the benefit of variable dilution at the dosing control unit so a standard stock solution will suit a variety of needs. Portable machine users still need to directly adjust the dilution but still avoid the need to change to a different chemical.

The variable dilution means that, in the case of Formula 90, for example, at 500:1 dilution the resulting solution is safe and effective on woollen carpets. For tougher, commercial carpets a stronger mix will raise the pH of the solution making heavy soiling easier to remove with the higher level of alkalinity. On the label there are three levels of dilution to suit the specific requirement so, with a dosing or metering system, the user simply resets the mix level to suit the specific need.

Express Lane, a multi-dilution traffic lane cleaner, is used as a prespray and again the dilution level can be varied to suit the type of carpet. When using the new version of the Express Lane High Pressure sprayer, the dilution level can be varied by simply changing the control setting on the unit making life easier for the user.
