Keeping all types of floor clean
December 1st 2004

Kärcher has concentrated on the development of its specialist scrubber dryer and vacuum sweeping machines.

With new design technology increasing the speed and efficiency of cleaning in conjunction Kärcher’s large range of floorcare cleaning machines nearly all budgets and machine criteria can be accommodated.

While walk behind scrubber driers might have been the norm in recent years, there is now a trend towards smaller ride on scrubber driers and sweepers giving more value for money in today’s price conscious markets. The technical advance for flooring to meet today’s hygiene and safety standards requires cleaning machines that can meet challenges imposed by dimpled flooring and the smooth flat floor that the disc machine was typically designed for.

One maintenance machine for the facilities manager is Kärcher’s BR/BD TRIKE ride on scrubber drier, designed to provide a low price solution through high productivity and efficient cleaning. This machine enables retail and warehouse facilities to be kept clean from oil/grease deposits and spillages, with debris and dirt efficiently vacuum recovered to leave a dust free environment, thus keeping the risk of cross contamination to an absolute minimum. This compact and stylish ride on unit enters the market at a price normally associated with walk behind units, so the investment allows dramatic productivity improvements as not only is the unit able to operate at a speed considerably faster than a walkbehind.

It has the capability of cleaning up to 2700m2/hr yet also easily cleans narrow aisles and close warehouse racking.

While the latest machines from Kärcher bring with them exciting new cleaning concepts and broaden the application spectrum for the end-user, the ever increasing demand for cost efficient cleaning machines can be met from Kärcher’s time proven range of models.

One such model is the low cost BR 400 scrubber dryer, with its additional capability of ultra high speed polishing and floor stripping.

This compact machine has the advantage of cleaning right up to walls and edges, and operates with a high brush rotation speed of 1500 rpm.

With its ability to clean and dry various surfaces and its capability to be used in a ‘handle-flat’ position, the BR 400 is well suited for areas with an 18 height restriction, a criteria demanded of most warehouses.

With increased pressure to adhere to health and safety regulations vital to the smooth running of all establishments the BR 400 provides results that conform to the highest standards.

The main advantage of the BR 400 is economy; the high-powered turbine motor ensures efficient water recovery through twin suction nozzles. Floor surfaces are cleaned and dried in a single pass eliminating safety risk due to wet and slippery floors, yet with only one operator and one machine, man hours and resources are kept to an absolute minimum.

In direct response to the inherent need for reducing expenditure by premises and facilities managers, Kärcher have concentrated on engineering improvement towards productivity, not only from their machines, but also from the operators. Improved operator efficiency comes from better training and Kärcher address this issue by ensuring their equipment is both easy and comfortable to handle with controls that provide convenient operation where monitoring of the operator can be minimised the greater the productivity and all manufacturers today are looking to achieve this optimum position.

Walk behind

The BR 55/60 Walk-behind scrubber drier with a working width of 55 cm for a wide range of applications.Cleans all hard and resilient floors in supermarkets, hospitals, the trades, sports arenas and so on.

Apart from scrubbing, the brush head sweeps loose dirt at the same time.Contra-rotating brushes ensure uniform distribution of water under the brush head and transport coarse dirt into its waste container.

Kärcher’s BD 55/60, compact double-walled, tank-in-tank-housing has a newly developed large drain outlet, with suction channel integrated in the housing cover that reduces odours. The suction channel cover can be removed without any effort and be cleaned.

No cleaning stripes or marks remain on the floor as the cleaning solution is transported to the middle between the two disc brushes.

Sweeping changes

It follows that with the long established practice of out of town shopping, the cleanliness of car parks is becoming an increasing issue for the attractiveness of the store. The size of car parks servicing these stores require mechanical sweeping machines and particularly ride on machines such that the large areas involved can be swept thoroughly and efficiently in a minimum amount of time.

Kärcher’s Push sweeper KM 70/20 for sweeping of outdoor areas is six times faster than traditional brooms.Almost dust free sweeping thanks to sealed sweeping mechanism. Roller brush and side brush are mounted on same axle to ensure that no dust is left behind.

Manual direct drive and roller brush’s with universal bristles make the unit ideal for cleaning indoor and outdoor areas, e.g. yards, driveways, paths, warehouse and workshop floors, and so on. It is easy to transport and store, has an ergonomic handle that is adjustable to different operators height. The KM 70/20 mechanisms are sealed by rubber strips to reduce dust formation when in use.The roller bump on the right protecting the machine, walls, and furniture protected in case of collision when in use.
