Sunlight good for health
December 1st 2009

Sunlight's healthcare division has just taken delivery of its first teardrop trailer, as part of the company's ongoing commitment to reduce its operational carbon footprint.

The 13.5m DON-BUR trailer has been supplied by Ryder, as part of its 200 vehicle contract hire fleet.

"As the UK's leading supplier of laundry services for NHS hospitals we are committed to driving down our carbon emissions," comments Jonathan Phippen, Sunlight's group logistics manager.

"This new trailer design, with its claimed 10% fuel savings, is the perfect way to reinforce our green credentials.

"We've been outsourcing the supply of vehicles to Ryder for more than 21 years and recently have been working with them to reduce the carbon footprint of the entire fleet. We have reduced the maximum speed of all vehicles from 56 to 52mph, which we estimate will reduce fuel consumption by 5%, and we are now specifying all new trucks with bodies reduced by 6" in height with no loss of load capacity. This will further reduce the new trucks' fuel consumption and emissions.
