Cleaners choose Caddy August 1st 2006 With sales up 26% last year, Volkswagen's smallest van is proving popular. New franchise Professional Car Cleaning will have 40 Caddys fitted with 400-litre water tanks on the road by the end of the year
The Caddy van is proving popular in the cleaning market. New franchise enterprise, Professional Car Cleaning which provides a mobile car valeting service to private and corporate clients throughout the UK has modified its Caddys to make life as easy as possible for its franchisees.
Operating from a smartly liveried 2.0 litre 69 PS SDI-engined Caddy, PCC franchisees experience first hand the vehicles versatility. The Caddys have been adapted to carry a 400 litre water tank, installed in a way that inhibits water movement, and a bespoke racking system has also been fitted to carry a range of specialist valeting products including tyre dressing, polishes, waxes and specially developed protective products for upholstery and paintwork.
The SDI engine uses Volkswagen's award-winning unit injector or 'Pumpe Dse' technology which the company says gives lively but frugal performance. The Caddy has a load capacity of 3.2 cubic meters, enabling it to carry a payload of 819 kg (including driver). And roadside loading is made easy with a standard sliding door that opens to a width of 70 cm. Also available is a 1.9 litre 104PSI TDI engine with Direct Shift Gearbox transmission, which Volkswagen says is the first commercial vehicle to use this technology.
Following its January launch at the British Franchise Exhibition in Manchester, PCC reports keen interest from franchisees and expects to have 40 Volkswagen Caddys on the road this year.
...but what would you choose? If Clarkson was to buy a van, it'd probably be the Transporter Sportline: Front and rear spoilers; chrome grill and rails; 18 inch five-spoke alloys; lowered 30mm. Under the bonnet a 2.5 litre, 5 cylinder turbo diesel unit pushes out 174 PS and 400 Nm of torque at a trifling 2000 rpm. Available in no-nonsense black, red or silver, options include a Golf GTi style interior and an iPod adapter. |
