Welcome to the January e-news from Cleaning Matters.
The beginning of a new year is an incentive to change. After the Christmas break one feels refreshed and raring to go, either that or the complete opposite. For some, having the time to take stock over the winter leads to wanting a new direction altogether.
In last month's poll, the majority of you (37%), said your aim for business in 2010 is expansion. Now that the recession is being reported as officially over, it's the right time for growth. However, it's important not to risk the quality of your service in the rush to expand. Budgets may still be tight but every client expects 100% performance.
30% of respondents aimed simply to keep afloat this year. Again, caution should be exercised when trimming budgets in order to remain competitive. Staff need full training, products need to do their job and sustainability is increasingly an expectation.
A surprisingly large 33% of you said that you were looking to move out of cleaning and change direction. I suspect this may be the smaller companies among you who are finding it hard to compete with the big boys. Increasing regulations on small businesses may also be a determining factor.
In any event, whatever your plans for 2010, good luck.
All the best

FM market set for change The Facilities Management market will continue to see a dramatic shift toward multi-service provision in 2010, according to a new market report from MTW Research, with FM clients following ‘flight to price’ procurement strategies to reduce outsourcing costs.
